The Achilles Heel of Conservatives

Click on the picture to enlarge.

The following strategic analysis is compiled from the perspective of an enemy of freedom (the descriptive term "progressive" is utilized). It uncovers flaws that, if not adequately addressed by Citizen activists, will be fatal to the conservative movement in Utah.

Strategic Plan for Victory Over
the Conservative Movement In Utah

I. The Continued Threat of the Utah Conservative Movement

II. Core Weaknesses of Our Enemy

III. Key to Successful Exploitation: Insertion of Agent Provocateurs

IV. Gradual Introduction of the Progressive Agenda

V. Collateral Damage: Establishing New “Conservative” Role Models

VI. Effective Responses to Conservative Counter-Attacks

Final Thoughts

I. The Continued Threat of the Utah Conservative Movement

Despite significant gains in recent decades, the conservative right continues to be a decisive threat to the ultimate victory of the progressive movement in Utah. At almost every turn, conservatives thwart and delay the reforms required to implement the progressive agenda. In order to defeat our conservative enemies, we must more thoughtfully understand and respond to their natural weaknesses.

II. Core Weaknesses of Our Enemy

Fortunately, our enemy does not know how effective they are or could be, and they exhibit several core weaknesses that prevent them from ever achieving true victory over our agenda.

Their paramount weakness is ideological hypocrisy, or a lack of solid commitment to many of their proclaimed ideals. Evidence of this weakness lies in their predictable tendency to put trust and supposed friendship before the issues they claim to champion.

In exploiting their weakness, it is first critical to understand the mind of our enemy with regard to personal relationships and political involvement. Conservatives are naturally trusting of people and are eager to forge and maintain lasting friendships, even to the significant detriment of their cause. This tendency makes them highly vulnerable to attack from perceived allies.  In practical terms, they are tactically slow and unresponsive in providing direct and meaningful opposition to "conservative" candidates, elected officials, and other authorities who occasionally support the progressive agenda.

This is the opening our cause needs to utterly defeat the conservative movement in Utah.

III. Key to Successful Exploitation: Insertion of Agent Provocateurs

The first priority for successful exploitation of this weakness must be to insert several progressive agents into the conservative midst. We must identify, train, organize, and financially support several legislative and party officer candidates to run as "conservatives" in the Utah Republican Party.

These agents should be prominent, respected members of the community, though this is not an absolute requirement. Each agent must commit to faithful attendance at conservative functions, to delivering speeches that move conservative audiences, and, in the initial years, to generally vote in favor of high-profile conservative causes.  Once in elected office, these agents must have sufficient ingenuity and cunning to further endear themselves to conservatives—to become the trusted champions of the very cause they will ultimately undermine.

To aid in this endeavor, traditional progressive organizations must publicly denounce these agents, must vilify them to their fellow progressives (as well as moderates), and must launch targeted, albeit ineffectual, attacks against them.

These attacks will cause their conservative constituencies to feel the need to come to their aid and defense. This, in turn, will bind the allegiance of most conservatives to our agents—rendering them weak and unwilling to attack those agents in the future.

IV. Gradual Introduction of the Progressive Agenda

Upon an agent's third—occasionally fourth—year in the legislature, conservatives will be sufficiently softened and restful to efficiently oppose our true agenda. Our primed agents will then provide the ideal mechanism for its gradual introduction and implementation.

Specifically, each agent will support one to two progressive pieces of legislation each session, depending on the nature of those bills and the potential opposition they will receive from conservatives. While continuing to publicly promote the conservative agenda with regard to other issues, each agent will weaken the conservative will to resist the core issues of our choosing; at the time of our choosing.

V. Collateral Damage: Establishing New “Conservative” Role Models

In addition to the direct damage our agents will inflict to the conservative cause, we should outline the extensive collateral damage that will also be realized. Because of the blind trust and support that conservatives will exhibit toward our agents, new legislators and current moderate legislators will come to view them as conservative icons and role models.  We will have the opportunity to mold these legislators and shift their expectations of what they can and should accomplish while in office.  Indeed, we will shift the entire conservative agenda to the left. As our agents continue to make the progressive agenda more politically rewarding, palatable, and enticing, conservatives will increasingly find it difficult to maintain discipline within their own ranks.

The objective is to have our agents emulated by the larger conservative movement. Our agents should come to represent the epitome of conservative-ism in Utah. Indeed, the conservative movement should ultimately be judged by the words and actions of our agents.

This approach will make our agents nearly undefeatable for several election cycles.  By that time, the seeds of the progressive movement will be deeply sown into the psyche of our enemy.

VI. Effective Responses to Conservative Counter-Attacks

If the true agenda of these agents is exposed to some degree, or if they are attacked for their support of our progressive legislation by some element of the conservative movement, all is not lost. Again, because conservatives place personal relationships on the same level as political relationships, they will be willing to overlook many progressive actions taken by our agents. When it comes to those they consider "their own," experience proves that conservatives will desire to compromise at almost any cost.

It will take enormous resources to overturn the reputations of these agents, let alone to convince enough conservatives to actually remove these agents from office. If brought to a head via political conflict amongst conservative ranks, this will, in and of itself, be extremely divisive to the conservative movement, and will weaken them for the continued efforts of those elected officials who are openly progressive.

Conservatives who lack the will to oppose our agents will find such political conflict uncomfortable and distasteful, and may withdraw from serious political activity for some time. Conservatives who wish to take swift and decisive action against our agents will be frustrated at the lack of ideological diligence and vigilance on the part of their fellow conservatives. Ideally, conservatives in this latter category will be marginalized—and perhaps ridiculed—by their colleagues for taking such staunch positions.  They may also tire and withdraw from political involvement, which represents a significant victory on its own merits.

VII. Long-Term Success

Well-trained agent provocateurs are the answer to the conservative movement. Indeed, these agents will, in a few short years, break the backbone of the conservative movement. Conservatives lack the will, and therefore the timely response, to resist and effectively counter threats from those they perceive to be their ideological comrades.

With a minimal progressive investment in a savvy group of agent provocateurs, the entire field of current and future conservative and moderate elected officials will be compromised with the deadly seeds of the progressive movement.

[End of Strategic Plan.]

Final Thoughts

By sharing this mock strategic plan, no insinuation has been made that a specific legislator or party officer is a plant for the opposition.  But one need not be a plant to allow the enemy to accomplish the designs in the above strategic plan. The pressures are tremendous at the capitol. Without humility and a few solid, limited government Citizens to keep an official unflinchingly and unceasingly in line with reality, it is doubtful that any one could long be invulnerable to manipulation and subversion by the left.

This exercise suggests that those bent on destroying freedom take heart in the notion many conservatives share that we should not swiftly remove officials who only destroy our core rights and freedoms some of the time.  Tacticians on the left would be fools to fail to use this Achilles heel to effectively neutralize the conservative movement in Utah.

Unfortunately, they are not fools, and incorporate conservative weakness in their strategies—and to their profound advantage.  Citizens dare not continue to send the message that advocates of limited government will look the other way, and even re-elect, so-called "conservatives" who significantly and stubbornly attack any fundamental, God-granted right or freedom.

Addendum: For one example of the blatant "progressive" effort to lull conservatives to sleep with calculated sophistry, read our news item, "'Progressive' Blueprint for Deceiving Gun Owners."
